During the 1970s, 'everybody' smoked! If you were a young kid you had to make do with candy cigarettes instead (we called them 'sweet fags' (oh innocent days!!!)) until we were old enough to start smoking properly. I have a very good memory of buying 'Superman' candy cigs! They were probably on sale at the same time Superman himself was beating up Nick O'Teen on tv ads on ITV! And of course, we used to 'puff' on them for a few seconds before scoffing them. All part of the fun. :-)

    I was born in the 80s & they were still around then!! My parents were both smokers... So I felt very grown up until I couldn't stop myself eating them!!

    I loved them! It was fun pretending to smoke them when I was a nipper, and when I became an adult, they didn't entice me to take up smoking either. I loved peeling the paper off as a child and eating the yummy thin stick of chocolate. Great memories. Some packs even had football stars collectors cards too.

    i would get a smokers set every christmas instead of a selection box. Always thought they tasted so much nicer than regular chocolate. Although i wasnt keen on the rolling tobacco made from shreaded coconut.

    Yes,but they were banned as were considered t encourage children to 'graduate' to real cigarettes when they got older. However similar is still available under the name of 'candy sticks' which are exctly the same but without the red tip,

    I always had these and pretended to smoke them, who didn't , but i never smoked for real as I thought bad breath would mean i'd never get a snog.

    There were the chocolate ones where the paper was made out of sugar paper and was edible and the white candy ones. The white candy ones had their names changed to candy sticks, but looked exactly the same, apart from the red ending, imitating the flame. I never became a smoker, so it didn't influence me.

    I well remember these. Quite liked them, yet, it never introduced me to smoking. I've never smoked. We knew, even at a young age, they were not real.

    I do remeber these, very well as a matter of fact. See, when i was a kid their was two types, candy cigarettes that was sold in a normal cardboard box and were hard candy and the kind which were chocolate sticks covered in white paper that were sold in a cigarette style box, whci i liked the best. The chocolate ones were discontinued due to the similarity to cigarettes....which are still known as fags round these parts, political correctness be damned. Yet, I have never smoked, nor had any desire to smoke.

    Ah those innocent days. In the 60s they used to come in boxes that looked just like my parents' packets of 10. My mum would buy me a packet and I'd 'puff away' just like her. They were especially realistic as they had a bright red tip. Now they seem to call them 'candy sticks' and the red tip has disappeared. Strangely enough I've never smoked a real fag in my life. All those horrific 'anti-smoking' films tey showed us at school must have put me off. So I can't blame my mother for bringing me up badly.

    never could work out if the paper around the chocalate was edible so spent most of my childhood spitting out soggy "fag wrappers"
