Alas Smith and Jones

I think Mel Smith is possibly one of the funniest people on earth. Griff Rhys Jones is, however, the opposite. He's funny, but not in a comedy sort of way. I can't really describe how un-funny I find him, aside to us the comparison that he reminds me of an anti-Mel.

Now oddly, Alas Smith and Jones was an incredibly funny sketch show featuring Mel and Griff as a variety of characters in amusing situations.

One consistent piece that appeared in ever episode, was a conversation between Mel and Griff, in which only the profiles of their heads were seen and they'd discuss a random topic.

The show was 30 mins long and ran for years.

Loved Alias Smith & Jones... Particularly loved the end credits where S&J took on the characters of club singers to sing the closing theme which began: "And so the tears of laughter dry..." and the end went: "That's it, that is the end of it, no tiny titbit, that is the end of it... This is the end, end, end." Partway through the end song, Mel would always give the club's punters a message "A reminder from the management, could patrons not leave fish and chip baskets in the car park, thank you..." was one that I remember.

I beg to differ. Alias Smith and Jones was a western starring Peter Duel and Ben Murphy. They played Hannibal Hayes and Kid Curry, two bank robbers that were trying to stay our of trouble long enough to get amnesty from the Governor.
