Alice

Alice was the name of the US sitcom first shown in 1976 and was named after its lead character Alice Hyatt. The sitcom Alice was actually based on the 1975 film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and followed the life of widowed Alice Hyatt.

After Alice's husband was killed in a truck accident, she set off for Hollywood with her son to live her dream of being a singer. But her car broke down in Phoenix and she ended up working in a greasy-spoon with waitresses Flo and Vera and boss Mel.

The series ended in 1985 by which time Alice had finally become a singer with a band in Nashville!

Flo left and was replaced by Belle, then she left & Jolene replaced her in turn. There was a Dukes of Hazzard crossover when Boss Hogg & Enos guest-starred. Regular customers were Earl & Henry.

I remember watching Alice everyday in the afternoon when school was out for summer. I can only remember Alice Flo and Mel and Alices son. Actually the only episode I remember is the one where Flos boyfriend drives the transfer truck into the diner.
