Alpine Soft Drinks

The Alpine Soft Drinks man used to come round in a sort of converted milk float every week (Wednesday or Thursday), and sell these street by street back in the mid seventies. Alpine Soft Drinks were closer to Corona than Cresta, but they came in the most vivid colours and left you hyper all evening. Alpine Soft Drinks came in the usual flavours - Orangeade, Limeade, Lemonade, Cola, Cherryade and of course Dandelion and Burdock. As someone who worked for them for a short time I can remember one of the top sellers was American Cream Soda.

Hello Alan. I think I remember you. Did you have an assistant nicknamed Joe 90? I was a temporary manager until I was sacked for having too many accidents commuting from Stoke every night and day (I fell asleep going home after doing a 14 hour shift in the fog the night Graham Hill was killed). The supervisor was a well-spoken chap called Dick Brown who drove a lemon yellow Jensen Healey sports car. He most likely replaced me as manager.

I worked at the Notts depot during the red hot summer of '76'. I remember Joe '90', also Barry Ricketts. Barry lived (possibly still lives) in Newstead Village.

Does anyone remember the two "Johns" who used to deliver around the Castle Vale area in the mid 70's? One used to dress as a "teddy boy". I used to help them every Saturday when I was 14. The good old days! I would love to get in touch with them. Such happy days!

In the early 80's I was a Alpine Driver at Greg Street in Stockport, everyone's comments listed below are so correct and those so small "accidents" / "bumps" we had in the Vans! (you know the lamp posts we hit while the van lad was guiding us back!) other Drivers must remember them! George Edwards the manager and Alf (suv) we so certain that a lad was at the back every time we reversed, but they were never around! normally chatting to girls on the round somewhere! What happened to Colin Myott and Dave Edge

I worked at Gregg Street in the late 70s and early 80s on the canvass and on the rounds - with the odd stint at the Manchester and Liverpool depots. I remember Alf and George. Characters. The Area Managers changed frequently - Peter Tinson, Liam, and a guy known only as 'red nose'. Hope Alf and George are still going strong. Pete Chapman and myself were a bit of a double act on the canvass.

Exactly the same as in my time in the Beeston, Nottingham depot, summer of 1986! The van lads were always skiving off to snog and often bonk local girls, so reversing the TKs was a one man job, with disastrous results. The warehouse had a leader board of accidents - there were one or two every week without fail! One week Dave H. the supervisor managed to knock down two front garden walls in the same street on two days. He got flummoxed by the change from Bedford to Renault vans and, in his own words on the crash form, "put it into reverse, but thought it was in first". The vans had different gear patterns and once he'd got used to the Renault, when he went out with one of the old Bedfords, he screwed up again!

I worked at the chelmsley wood depot. I met my husband Martin there. Had some great friends, cocky pig from polesworth and evelyn who dated cock pig. What a brilliant laugh. Left in 1976 to have a baby.
