Bands and musicians BANDS

Applejacks

A band from Solihull in the mid 60s. The band consisted of Al Jackson on vocals, Martin Thomas on lead guitar, Philip Peter Casg on rhythm guitar, Megan Kelso Davies on bass guitar and vocals, Gerald Sernest Freeman on drums and Dan Gould on piano and organ.

Together, they had a big hit with Tell Me When and a (smaller) follow up, Like Dreamers Do. The band were originally known as The Cresta back in 1961 and then the Jaguars, before sticking with The Applejacks as their name. They originally met when they were scouts, apart from Al who joined later. After chieving a number seven in the charts with their first single, the band became accustomed to appearing on TV to promote their wares, such as spots on Thank Your Lucky Stars. It was here that they became friendly with The Beatles, who later provided them with the music for Dreamers Do.

Megan and Gerald later went on to marry. Aaaaah!

Lead singer was Al Jackson who used to cut my hair as a small boy. Megan Davis was the bass player. They used to rehearse in kineton green Road and Al Jackson's parents ran the Moonraker pub.
