Birds Eye Steaklets

Steaklets were a superior form of beefburger in two square shaped beef patties.

Birds eye started targeting food at children and these were in the same cupboard as Birds eye Chicklets

So the general rule was that they were much more child sized, bitesize bits of reconstituted beef. The captain also had a fish bitesized dinner treat called hungry joes.

They all went with chips!

Yes, they were really tasty. We had them as a special treat, as my mum had very little money. My brothers and I looked forward to eating these with their unique meaty taste. Nothing compares to these today

Absolutely vile cheap real-meat substitute inflicted on me by my parents back in the 70s. I hated them. They looked a bit like the kittykat cat food sicked up routinely by the family cat (a brand of tinned cat food renowned in our family home for its emetic properties).

Yes no beef patty since has come close. Not one burger today tastes as good. I couldn't wait to get home from school when we had birds eye steaklets for dinner

Not sure if I remember these but the burgers were to die for. I did try the burgers again recently for the first time in years and sadly, like a lot of things these days, didn't taste as nice, rather tasteless and a bit mushy - probably about as much meat on Lester Piggots whip, as Bernard Manning once said on Wheeltappers And Shunters.

Steaklets were the best, even my fussy husband liked them, with saute potatoes, grilled tomatoes and mortons peas, which you can't get anymore either
