Brookside

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Brookside was a famous soap opera set in Liverpool, UK. Some of the favourite plots in Brookside included Trevor Jordache being buried under the patio plus the first lesbian kiss to be aired on British TV.

There was rarely a dull moment on Brookside - I think each character went through some kind of terrible disaster at least 10 times over!

It really was the best soap ever made..from the first episode I was hooked...followed it right to the end. It did loose its appeal though as it ran out of ideas.

It truly was groundbreaking when it began in the 1980s - filmed in real houses and fearlessly political. I remember its early years fondly.

I remember Gordon Collins became gay overnight.Far more terrifying was the fate of his girlfriend Cathy, who literally ceased to exist and all memory of her was expunged from everybody's memory. More like Star Trek than a British soap.

This was my favourite soap for many years. It's such a shame channel 4 axed it (and all they've done is replace it with crap like Big Brother and endless repeats of Friends and The Simpsons.)Jimmy Corkhill, Jacqui and Max Farnham were my favourites. Was amused to see Rachel Jordache in Emmerdale the other week.

So many people who used to be in Brookside have shown up in other things now, especially not forgetting that Philip Olivier (The Games) & Jennifer Ellison (pop star/west end) became famous from the show. I loved it, thought it was better than Eastenders and watched it without fail 3 times a week I think it was on. Gutted when it was moved to Saturdays only & then axed completely. I'll never forget it - loving the liverpudlian accent too.

Bryan Murray played an adulterer in Fair City ( Irish soap ) recently - in fact , his on-screen mistress and he duetted on a charity song contest. He's come a long way from burying people under floorboards I suppose ! I've only ever seen the odd episode of Brookie, never followed it religiously.
