Cadbury's Freddo Frog

A frog-shaped chocolate bar that I first remember from the early 70s. It wasn't much more than a mouthful...not even a mouthful for a greedy kid of 12 or so! Freddo Frog was followed up by Carmello Koala.

The caramel-filled Freddo Frog bar came in a yellow wrapper and was known as the Taz Bar (complete with Looney Tunes character) before this.

Freddo Frog was very nearly a chocolate mouse (with a different name) but Cadbury's came their senses and realised that children would be to afraid to eat chocolate mice and frogs are much less scary.

You can still buy the solid chocolate ones, I bought a big bag full at the Cadbury shop at Cheshire Oaks the other day.

I recall these from being a kid in the late 70s in the UK. Now living in Australia they are readily available (along with chocolate koalas) in chocolate, strawberry and caramel flavours for about 90 cents.

Little known fact, Freddo Frog has been around a lot longer than people realise. It comes from Australia and was first made in 1930.

I loved these. My dad used to bring me one home each day after work. I used to be all over him when he got in, searching through his suit pockets for it. To this day every time I smell, let alone taste, Cadbury's milk chocolate I think of it.
