Corona soft drinks

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

"Every bubble's passed its FIZZical!" yelped the Ernie Bilko-voiced Head Bubble in the cartoon ads for this knobbly-bottled orangeade. Very popular in the '70s. The idea of devouring an entire army of bubbles and then belching out their remains appealed to the juvenile mind.

Swansea depot tried various ways of cutting costs ,they even bought two electric vans similar to milk floats sprayed in the corona yellow colours,Rob and his van boy Conkers used to deliver to the Gorseinon swansea area in the first electric vans, however due to a drinks company called alpine who sold their pop at half the price Corona could not compete so set up the drivers as agents using the corona brand and made them go self employed,..... this post has stirred up really happy memories well done

Stateside we had these things we called Fizzies, essentially a flavored tablet you were to drop into a glass of water and it would fizz up and make a 'carbonated' drink. They were horrible, really, but if you could snitch one when Mom wasn't looking, they were a lot of fun to just put on your tongue and let them dissolve. Mom never caught on that we didn't like them much. In the early 60's my Dad got transferred to Lakenheath AFB in East Anglia and we lived in a little town called Brandon. It was there that my mother found out about Corona from the man who delivered our coal. She was looking for a Fizzy replacement. My brother and I thought the orange flavor was out of this world and I wouldn't mind having a bit of it right now. Of course when I tell those stateside about things like Corona, fresh fruit on Market Day, Opel Fruits (which are Starburst over here), they look at me like I'm from Mars.

What an interetsing thread, I worked for Corona at the Selina Lane Depot from 1970 to 1975 as a Driver/Salesman and latterly as a supervisor. The Manager ws Brian 'Rolly' Rollinson, others were Alan the Area Manager, Roy Dann, Len Grimwood?, Graham the cashier and Bill the mechanic. Bill would always service your car for a small fee! Graham would often collect the wages for the guys on a Friday and would walk the couple of miles back from the bank carrying the money pouch, how he never got mugged was a miracle! Brian the manager always maintained that he didn't have a phone so couldn't be contacted outside working hours, clever man!I worked a 'split' round (so-called because it was split between two salesmen covering 9am-9pm) I think it was round 5. Me and my partner Colin were always nearly top of the saleschart but were consistently beaten by a split round at the Stamford Hill Depot.Looking back this was a fantastic job, lots of new salesman coming and going some staying just a week or two others, like me, staying for years. The direct selling door-to-door stopped in 1975 and the operation transferred to the milk round companies although some of the guys purchased the fanchise themselves and continued to sell door-to-door, I wonder how long that lasted.

Hi, i remember corona pop too back in the 70s. Ahh the good ole days. There was a bloke who worked for corona back in the 1960s and 1970s i think he was the driver on our route which was the mount pleasant and northill area of Swansea. His name was Terry. I'l never forget him he was a nice character and everytime i think of corona pop i think of him and my childhood. It would be great to know what happened to him. So in reply to terry's comment dated 9th September 2004 it would be great if you had any information on him. Hope to hear from you. Katy

Hi. I was just doing a bit of family tree when remembered a lad that used to help me on my milk round in 1976 in lewes and ringmer. I thought his surname was Collins. I moved away in 77.but I heard that he’d gone to work at corona and was sadly killed by a lorry in the yard. Is this the same lad? Thanks. Rick.

I am an OAP and I remember the Corona 'Lorry', it was like a dray, with the word CORONA in large letters coming round when I was a little girl in the late 1940-50's. I also remember getting a Corona Brooch which you got when you ordered a certain amount. My memories are of the Cherryade and Limeade but we also had the orangeade. The Corona delivery man came once a week and I have never tasted any soft drink that comes anywhere near the Corona flavoured drinks. I lived in North Wiltshire and the Corona Soft Drinks was part of my beautiful childhood.
