Educating Marmalade

Educating Marmalade was one of my favourite children's programmes that aired back in 1981 - I remember getting a Marmalade Atkins Annual.

Marmalade was an extrememly naughty and mischevious girl - rather like a female Dennis the Menace in many ways. She was played by Charlotte Coleman who later played Scarlet in Four Weddings and a Funeral but died tragically young of an asthma attack in 2001.

The series was written by Andrew Davies, who has gone on to write the screenplays for the "Bridget Jones'" movies and "Tipping the Velvet".

Another interesting fact - Marmalade's mother was played by Lynda La Plante, who is a very famous crime writer and creator of the "Prime Suspect" series. Marmalade's father was played by John Bird - who many people know from "Bremner, Bird and Fortune".

Loved this show - always loved it when Marmalade mucked around - i remember she was sent off to different schools each week to try and educate her - she even ended up in prison but was so disruptive that the guards made her escape
