Essentially just a gimmicky piece of costume branded by the 70s TV show 'Emergency!' which centred around the goings on of Station 51 and Rampart Emergency Hospital, dealing often with actual events in an attempt to educate as well as entertain its audience. The Emergency Station 51 was pined after by many a kid dreaming of becoming a bonafide County Fire Dept crew member.
The hat itself was pretty flimsy and easily dented or torn. It would barely survive a scrap with the kid next door, let alone an actual emergency situation.
