Fanta and Coca Cola Spinners

I remember everyone going crazy in the playground for these things. They were named 'spinners' but really they were just posh yo-yo's.

I think there were special tricks to learn such as 'walk the dog' and 'rock the cradle', and once perfected you could enter tournaments and win better versions of the spinners, such as gold ones. All this, while the other kids in the playground abandoned their elastics tournaments, lo-lo balling and Skip-its to admire your skill and panache. I like to think I'll be able to impress my own kids with the same yo-yo tricks, even if Fanta and Coca Cola Spinners aren't around anymore.

Win the competitions and obtain a gold or galaxy spinner. I still have a small collection of these including one of the very first galaxy spinners now approx 30 yrs old. The two types afformentioned were the super and professional spinners White rims and crystal rims (more weight) respectively. I'm going to play with mine right now!

Ahhh these take me back, I was the Bolton Spinning champion and went to Runcorn to the regional finals, You could buy the super and professional spinners anywhere, however the "Gold" ones were with promotional ringpulls and the competitions in your area. I have tried to find a spinner that feels the same but none can match them. I think Coke should release them again ... dad showing the kids how its done lol

i can remember going mad for these, i had the coke, fanta and sprite one's and i also had the limited edition coke one. all i did for months was walk around trying to do tricks. cheap entertainment. kids these days just wouldn't get excited over a coca cola yo yo. wish I'd kept them, they were the days. they're worth a fair bit now.

Yep I had a Fanta one of these and I can remember the strings breaking regularly. I seem to recall the official name for them was a "Genuine Russell Spinner"

Yeah I remember these. Mine was a Coke. I remember there being two types. One had white edges and the other had clear edges. The strings always wore out really quickly with the spinning effect.
