Fizz Bombs

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Does anyone know if you can still get these? Fizz Bombs were fizzy, round, hard, sour sweets with a rough coating. Eeeugghh! They made you scrunch your face up!

Classic sweets which were only 1p each. There was a larger version called Fizz Gongs which were 3p each and were a bit too big. I could hardly get them in my mouth!

This is the first time I’ve seen any reference to fizz gongs. I’ve asked many times in old fashioned sweet shops and no one’s ever heard of them! Thank God they’re not just part of my imagination! Wish they’d bring them back!

The original Fizz Bombs that you are describing are still sold in South Africa and are manufactured by a company called Cartoon Candy

Dobson's also had a small factory in Winlaton (Gateshead) that went up in flames in the late 1970s. They also made a black fizz bomb called 'Coals from Newcastle'

I loved these as a child - the *new* fizz bombs aren't a patch on the originals. That lovely, crunchy, enamal stripping fizz followed by the honeycomb texture(ish) inside with it's slight fizz... Loved the orange and purpley ones.

Actually there's a is a brand out there called Fizzy Wizzy and they're almost identical to the old Fizz Bombs.. The purple ones are the most similar flavour-wise (and were my favourite Fizz bombs too)!

I sometimes have these when I go to the movies. They're just your generic supermarket scoop them into a cup version though. Not as good as the old ones.
