French and Saunders

French And Saunders was best when it first started. I recently found the spoof of The Dolly Parton Show, The Farton Sisters and I remember watching that when I was about 13 and I'm 39 now.

It was great back then, as the channels were over run with terrible sit-coms that might, at most, have brought a smile to your face at the most! Thankfully we have to thank the likes of French And Saunders, The Young Ones, Victoria Wood (As Seen on TV) and Monty Python for paving the way for what we no longer see as 'alternative' comedy.

I remember as a child, a few older people saying they didn't find stuff like Monty Python funny. I can only guess that it was because it was a new refreshing way of looking at things and they really didn't realise that it was based on observation and good old fashioned pee taking! French And Saunders were certainly doing that! My favourite sketch to this day is 'Star Pets'. Maybe you won't agree with my opinion, but that's just how I saw it.

Definitely at its best in the late 1980s, when it began. I recall the Monty Python (which began in 1969) team saying that they were inspired by the earlier off-beat comedy, The Goons.
