Henry's Cat

Henry's Cat was an animated show of the 80s about a daydreaming yellow cat with a nasal voice called 'Henry's Cat' (the cat owned by Henry 9 to 5, an unseen commuter) and his best friend, a light blue, hyperactive rabbit called Chris Rabbit with a high pitched, hyperactive voice.

Henry's Cat was first shown in 1983 and five series were made. It became quite popular an is still considered a classic - just like Bod, Button MoonPigeon Street, The Flumps and Mr Benn.

Henry's Cat appeared in the TV tie-in comic "Buttons" and once they did a story about him trying to find out his origins and the reason for his name (it was like "Who Do You Think You Are?" before that was invented!). Someone concluded one of his ancestors must have belongedto a famous man named Henry (there were pictures of HC in military and chef's outfits as illustrations!). HC himself led an independent life and didn't seem to have (or need) an owner, Henry or anyone else. HC's nemesis was a villanous ram called Rum Baba (sp?). The series had no fewer than three theme tunes during its run. The episode I remember (and had on video) was the Magic Tummy Button, which HC was searching for as it would allow him to eat as much as he liked without getting full! He and his friends wanted to go to Ancient Egypt to search for it. They got on a bus and the conductress said (Lancashire accent): "Oh. We only go to the museum, love." Classic! I need to lose weight as I'm now the same shape as Henry's Cat!

Henry's Cat... '80s classic... and I still wonder what Henry actually looked like!
