Joe

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

'Joe' is probably my earliest tv memory. I think it was a 'Watch With Mother' programme but I clearly remember it being about a little boy in dungarees who looked like a 'Mini-Me' of Matt Skilbeck from Emmerdale Farm.

His parents ran a transport cafe, and were often visited by Joe's older siblings, cousins, aunties & uncles, grandparents etc. They seemed to be a fairly large and close family. Much of it was to do with Joe's interest in motor vehicles, and his opportunity to ee a great deal of them due to his parent's occupation. Along with 'Mary, Mungo & Midge' (who lived in a towerblock), 'Joe' was one of the first cartoons to focus on working class children (although everybody nonetheless seemed to have middle-class accents). He also featured as a cartoon strip in 'Playhour' comic, with a row of various cars, lorries etc. drawn across the top of the page.

He was always crying and his mother used to say "Oh Joe!".
