Kunzel Cakes

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

I can remember my parents used to order Kunzel Cakes on a thursday night in Carters in Ebbw Vale. We would have them delivered on a Friday evening. Me and my brother would eat the cakes and then fill the chocolate boats with milk and drink from them all evening - lovely !

In the 60's, I fondly remember listening to 'sing something simple' on a Sunday, tucking in to sardines on toast and then the grand finale with the delectable kunzel cakes. I am sure the additives etc would not be of culinary correctness, but who cares they were mouth wateringly delicious.

In the 60's it was always a very special treat when kunzel cakes were put on the table. Sunday teatime, the black and white minstrel show followed by sardines on toast then the grand kunzel finale, great times!

Ohhh, the Golden Shot! That really is a blast from the past. For me, Kunzel cakes evoke memories of fighting my sister for the vanilla/chocolate button one and 'Black Beauty' on the tv.

When I was a child we would go to our local corner shop with our pocket money on a Saturday. My brother always bought sweets, but I loved the Kunzel cakes. I bought a single one all wrapped up in it's cellophane, and I'd stare at it because it was always so perfect.I took ages to eat it....making it last as long as I could! A real treat! I missed the return at Waitrose. Great shame!! Definately need them to come back again, kids these days would love them. Alison

I can remember Kunzle cakes as being a real treat, my Mum had some sent to her through the post as a present, they were a little squashed, but tasted great all the same. Shelagh Paynter
