Maid Marian

Maid Marian was a classic children's comedy that reversed the tale of Robin Hood to make Maid Marian the head of the merry men. The stories focused around the merry gang and sometimes the villagers uprising against King John and his sheriff.

Written by and starring Blackadders' Tony Robinson as the Sheriff Of Nottingham who ended most episodes defeated and covered in mud. Also starred Red Dwarf's Danny John-Jules as Barrington.

Its full title is actually "Maid Marian and her Merry Men". Great fun. Lots of Blackadder-style jokes about the present day set in an historical context, such as when the Sheriff gets a letter shot by arrow and says the post has arrived: "It gets later every day!" Or the great spoof of Comic Relief in one episode where the Sheriff has kidnapped Colin the Chicken and it becomes: "Colin's Release". Tony Robinson gave himself all the Blackadder bits to do after years suffering as Baldrick.

Maid Marian was one of the best kid's programmes ever! Even though it wasn't really just for kids as although the humour was silly it was also quite grown up. Used to really look forward to watching this at teatimes!
