Nilsson was a man with a vocal range across six octaves and a propensity to drink John Lennon under the table. Respect!
Most famed for "Everybody's Talkin" and "Without You", I first heard him as a sproglet when he popped up on a children's programme with "Coconut". I then found him in my father's record collection. Really solid and impressive stuff.
He also had a London flat where Mamas and the Papas' Mama Cass Elliot died.
He was more rock n' roll than rock n' roll itself. Whereas everyone of his generation tried to be, he just was.
