Nux Bar

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Nux Bars were nutty with caramel and chocolate. I cant remember who made them, but they were delicious.

I found the wrapper of a Nux bar today - made of paper with a little card tray, its brown and white with 'Nux' in big red lettering and the price of 6d clearly printed on

Yes, I remember Nux bars now in the early 60s. They were yummy and chewy. A lot of chocolates seem to disappear and don't realize until years later.

A Nosh Bar from Beacon is very similar. Nux was the best! What happened to Rowntrees?

In 1956/7 I was an assistant production manager at Rowntrees in York, where Nux bars were made. My department also made Kitkat, Aero and Milk Motoring bars, Dairy Box, Black Magic and Smarties.

I also remember Nux bars from my childhood in the early 60's. Delicious & much tastier than Picnic bars. Yes, they were discontinued mid to late 60's. I seem to remember they continued to form part of The Dairy Box selection & may still do, although I haven't bought a box for many years. Phil

Don't think that's right. I was misled by a local petrol station who had no Picnic bars and told me Lion Bars were the same. Lion bars have no peanuts in them. Picnic Bars do. Nux bars were really like a Picnic, packed with peanuts and had toffee wafer and probably nougat in them too. They were I think a Rowntree Product that was discontinued probably around the late 1960s

I'm afraid I've just eaten a peanut Lion bar. I have a feeling that it was much the same as a Nux bar but as it's so long since I've tasted one I could be wrong.
