Bicycles BICYCLES

Pink Witch

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

A Raleigh bike, targeted specifically at young teenage girls. It was only available in pink and came fitted with mirrors, a shopping basket on the front and, I think, even a lipstick holder! Can anyone else remember this bike? My sister and I got this bike for Christmas way back in the 1950s.

Hi, the stars have a black outline and where originally silver but when weathered appear to be grey or even pink (when they are wearing off). I've got a mint example of an original Pink Witch in my shed if you want me to take some pictures? I actually have 3 of the bikes (two in mint condition and one being worked on). If you are seriously thinking of doing one up then you'll need to find someone to produce the decals for you, I've got a really good contact if you need any info as they have always done mine. Always happy to help!

My sister had one - but she rarley used it - so I was allowed to use it. I got used to the jibes and laughs of my schoolfriends because of its it's pink and pale blue paint and silver stars! But it stood me in good stead - cycling all over Scotland. I'm now older than 60 but still hanker after the bike for sentimental reasons. I did manage to obtain one from a ladt in Marclinch - but it's very rusty and I dont want to rub down the frame and destroy the original paint. I could poissibly pass it on to a grandchild - should ant come along! It was a superb and comfortable bicycle to ride.

When I was very small I wanted one of these beauties but my father couldn't afford it. I remember the lovely pink wheel arches, the turquoise wheel rims and the whitewall tyres and white saddlebag and handle bar covers. He got me a second hand bike (not a pink witch) and painted it dark green!

I still have my dear old Pink Witch. My husband modified it for me and gave it 5 gears and it still has its old colours. It has a new seat and used to go very well. Now, because of back problems, I'm not able to cycle any more so am thinking of selling it. My husband has his old bike too. His was a Carlton on which he went everywhere in the UK! Both bikes just sit in the garage now.

Hi If you are still interested in selling your Pink Witch bicycle - I would be pleased to buy it. My eldest sister had one but never used it - so I used it. It was left in the loft after I went to university and when my parents moved house - they never took it with them. I'm keen to have one for sentimental reasons. Please get in touch and if you are still interested in selling. best regards - Robert Smith 21/05/2017

I remember entering a competition in School Friend to try to win a Pink Witch. I didn't but my parents paid so much a week to the local bike shop and I had a Pink Witch for Xmas when I was 12 and a half approx. I explored the Kentish lanes on it - such fond memories. I am 67 now and wish I'd never sold it for £8.00. when I was 18. Sometimes before I go to sleep I imagine riding it. Jenny Jenkins

I really wanted a pink witch. When I passed my 11 plus my parents bought me a bike. It wasn't a pink witch. It was a Raleigh but it was blue. My parents said it was a better bike but for me it wasn't. I'm 67 now and I still think about that bike I never had.

Same here. Passed 11-plus - desperate for Pink Witch, but got a much more boring one instead which parents said was better. I am 71 now and still regret not owning one.

I remember the name "Pink Witch" - but couldn't recall the maker. I had a feeling it was the female equivalent of the Phillips Phantom V - which I think was Bottle Green & Pink. Can't recall gears of either bike, whether derailleur or those crummy Sturmey-Archer hub-gears..
