R-R-R-Raw Power

R-R-R-Raw Power was a handle-grip accessory for children's bikes that made a kind of motorcycle engine noise when revved. It was very similar to the VaRooom and Za-Zooom which did the same kind of thing. The R-R-R-Raw Power had a better noise than the Za-Zoom though and didn't need a battery.

Most kids fitted R-R-R-Raw Power handle grips to bikes like the Sears Spyder, Huffy Thunder Road and the Raleigh Chopper that were made to look like motorbikes anyway.

Yes I remember this flipping (notice my polite choice of words here), thing! It nearly got me killed, not to mention falling off and earning some nasty, cuts, bumps and grazes! I swapped it with my mate and I was overjoyed! A push bike that made a noise like a motorbike, at last! (We were easily fooled and pleased back then)! It slipped off the handlebars one day and resulted in my cousin picking me up off the middle of the road, with the fore mentioned injuries!

This had to be the next best thing in my childhood , first was the big wheel! OMG! I must of spent half of my time on this thing. But that r-r-r raw power ruled! I think the first one was blue , then came a black one.

I do remember r -r - r -raw power but didnt relaise that it was called this. I did have this fitted to my bike but leaning or chucking my bike about too much meant that the flimsy plastic from which it was made, split. It had a similair mechanism inside to what plastic toy machine guns. When r -r - r -raw power broke I replaced the it with a playing card secured by a clothes peg to the back wheel.
