Raleigh Commando

A not quite 'so cool' precursor to the Grifter - mine was in orange and, If I remember rightly, was bloomin heavy! The Raleigh Commandos had chunky tyres and a saddle not disimilar to the Chopper. Great bike that stood a hell of a bashing. A line of red ribbon from a pillow case tied to the end of my bed on Christmas morning circa 1979 led me to this beauty, but I was not allowed to ride it until Boxing Day!

We have a brand new one in black. The only thing that is not original is the front tire. Does anyone have any idea what it is worth?

Me and my brother both got these one Xmas - Black with orange writng, a ton weight with the saddle that looked like a King Rib that was seriously uncomfy....I seem to remember they were virtually indestructable though.

Nah there was a purple one, which I had, that my big brothers salvaged from the tip! My mum brought us up alone so we didn't have the luxury of bikes for Christmas-you lucky people! Oh I loved that bike! We went everywhere! I remember it looking far more beautiful than the picure, mind! And I do remember having ass ache from that ruddy hard saddle!

This bike was normally orange or yellow but there was a really smart como one. The bike was a bit smaller than a griffter and I think incorporated all the bits raleigh had left over from various failed projects.
