Romper Room

Romper Room was a TV show run like a playgroup - all the four year old children sat around and Miss Rosayln would play games and sing them a song - #I'm a little tea cup# etc. Then the kids would stop and have milk and a biscuit before resuming more playgroup-type activities.

At the end of Romper Room, Miss Rosalyn would look though her 'magic' mirror and see who had been a good 'doo-bee' or a bad 'doo-bee'.

I should remember a bit more about it as I was on it!

Angie B, you are probably the same age as me then! I might have been watching you, might have even fancied you! Hats off to you for becoming a primary school teacher, it's probably one of the most rewarding jobs in the world "moulding people". Anyone buying an episode should get the 1974 one as the 1972 one has about the last third missing. One thing that i saw and remembered VERY fondly was the cildren dancing round in a circle, holding hands and taking turns to say... "Please Mr. Music, will you play". Isn't it a shame you can't roll the clock back and relive the happiest days of your life!

I wasn't ever on romper room but remember watching this as a very young child of between 2 and 4. I'm 42 now and it's my oldest memory so will always hold a special place in my heart. I saw a picture of Miss Rosalyn on another site (after some searching) and the memories came flooding back. To be honest i balled my eyes out for some reason. I have a small son of 18 months old and he makes me realise just how nice life was as a child. What i wouldn't give to be his age again (as long as it finished up with him as my son again!) I contacted ITV anglia in Norwich and a helpful man called Brian searched the archives to tell me that only 3 episodes of romper room remain, all the rest of the reels having been recycled (some things should be left alone!). Two episodes with Miss Rosalyn from 1972 and 1974. They are £99 each for a copy and i'm ordering both. Can't explain the feeling but watching romper room again after so long is going to be a once in a lifetime experience. I'll let my son see it and just hope he likes it too but doesn't get hooked expecting more episodes to follow!!

I was on Romper Room in about 1969 with Miss Rosalyn. I had the privilege of giving out the milk, but I think I cried! I remember making friends with a girl from King's Lynn. I used to love the "magic mirror tell me today, have all my friends had fun at play?" bit, and if she said my name, I really thought she could see me! Sorry, have I shattered any illusions there?? I also remember the "bend and stretch, reach for the stars" song and have sung it to my own children. Miss Rosalyn must have had a profound effect on me, as I have been a primary school teacher for the past 20 years, with my own class of 4 year olds!!!

I was also on Romper Room. I have a picture someplace with everyone from my show on it. Must have been 75 / 76. I remeber loads of that day. I wanted to play with the card board cars but we didn't do it that day and I was gutted. I inquired about getting a copy a couple of years ago but they said that they had just desroyed all the reels a couple months before. As far as I know they arn't availbe unless anyone knows different?

Haha. We had a pair of those Romper Stompers in our church nursery! I didn't use them really. My balance/coordination was never that good. I recently found out I have Asperger's Syndrome, and that was a big factor, as well as the severe scoliosis I had corrective surgery for in 6th grade. Anyway, ours were green with yellow strings.
