In Rough Cut, Burt Reynolds plays Jack Rhodes, an immensely successful diamond thief. He is being pursued by Chief Inspector Cyril Willis (David Niven) of New Scotland Yard who wants to nab him before his retirement. CI Willis blackmails Gillian Bromley (Lesley Ann Down) in order to get to Rhodes and lure him into a trap (using $30 million in diamonds as bait). It's the twist that makes you keep wanting to watch, and gives Rough Cut a brilliant ending. Produced in 1980, some would say this was a precursor for the film Entrapment, which starred Catherine Zeta Jones and Sean Connery.
