Toys TOYS

Smooshees

These things were rubbish (sorry, but they were)! Smooshees were made by Fisher Price around 1987 I think and they were basically small soft toys that could be stuffed into plastic holders.

"Rubbish!" I hear you say? "Exactly!" I say.

An example: 'Itty Bitty Kitty' was a ginger cat that could be squashed into her home and 'Prancy Pony' was an orange horse (that looked more like a freakish dinosaur) that could be squashed inside its pen.

The 'Cuddlers' range of Smooshees were simply the fabric dolls, without plastic cases, but with clothes or sleeping bags instead.

Why do I hate them so much? They were just so badly made! They were all just one piece of fabric with a print of the particular character on it just stitched together at the side. Just like the pillow dolls that kids made and pillow dolls were made better :)

I loved Smooshies! I had a mouse with its house (a piece of Swiss cheese) and a fish with its house (a round fish bowl), and lots of others including a keyring one. I don't recall having many of the 'people' Smooshies - mainly animals. But I did enjoy playing with them - I think kids' toys these days aren't half as good as our 90s ones.

I love Smooshies!! I still have a ton of them with all the accessories! I remember taking them everywhere with me when I was young. I am hoping to let my daughter play with them when she gets older too!

I had some of these and I had the little house too. I don't know why, but I seemed to find many hours of enjoyment playing with them.

I just have to say that as a child of the 80s, Smooshees were the best thing to ever happen to a kid. A trip to Toys R US was a dream come true, even if I wasn't allowed to buy any. To look at them was just a priviledge!
