Soap

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

"This is the story of The Campbells and The Tates...". A totally hilarious and completely insane sitcom based on two mismatched and feuding families with the occasional alien abduction, a case of infantile demonic possession and a very vocal ventiloquists dummy with a tact bypass thrown in for good measure.

Brilliant stuff!!

I am sure this show used to air straight after News at Ten on a Friday evening (in the Central/ATV area at least), and seemed to go on for years (although I doubt it did) Some great characters, and quite "edgy" ones given the times (gay Jodie, played by Billy Crystal, being the most obvious) Favourite character would have to be Benson (who I think went on to have his own show)

Loved this used to come on on Fridays. We used to look forward to my father coming back just before with a large bag full of all different kinds of fish and chip shop food and another bag full of our favourite sweets.

This was as much a satire of US soaps as it was a sitcom. Strangely, The Colby's did the alien abduction storyline several years later.

SOAP - one of the greatest TV comedies....with some hilarious lines of dialogue... CHESTER - (Suffering from Amnesia with a large head-bandage ) "My god, i'm Gunga Din!"( to Benson)," You're SIDNEY POITIER!!" BURT - ( Talking about stepson Jodie) "it's hard, this gay business - when i was going up, Gay meant happy!" SAUNDERS - ( After Chester had told him to "whip up" a sandwich for him) - " This isn't a chuck-wagon!!! I create!!!!" JODIE'S female date's mother - " YOU'RE A HOMO??!!"

I loved SOAP! And even viewing it today it is still as fresh and topical as ever. Jessica, Mary, Chester, Burt, Danny, Jodie, Corinne, Eunice, Dutch and all the others - I still miss you
