Spangles

Small tubes of individually wrapped sweets, they were available in various flavours - blackcurrant, strawberry, barley sugar, Old English (whatever were those supposed to taste like?) and a mixed fruit pack which for years contained one in a white wrapper covered in question marks which was the "Mystery flavour". Eventually the question marks were replaced by little cocktail glasses, but I've never yet had a cocktail that tasted like a Spangle. I'm sure they had lemonade and cola too...

Loved Spangles, they should bring them back, especially the orange and lemonade ones and they had cola ones as well. They were bought back in the 90s for a bit , shame they didn't continue with them, my favourites.

They didn't have names and I don't recognise that wrapper? I remember a bit more 1970s to it and white wraps with spangles written on.

Does anyone remember the mint Spangles which were like square Trebor Mints and came in a blue packet with white stars on.My friends and I use to pretend we had 'made' Polo mints by licking the dent in the middle to wear through and make a hole. I'm sure it's not a dream!

I have been trying so hard to think of the name of these for such a long time. I imagined they already had holes in them though. I too remember that blue packet with white stars. Were they actually spangles? I didn't think so. Have you found anything else out about them? I can't find anyone who remembers them.

I liked the Old English Spangles and the mixed ones too. I'm sure they made another flavour as well like a soda drop taste.

I'll never know why Spangles are no longer available and had to be discontinued; they were made ages ago before I was born and briefly brought back in the mid 90s then discontinued again; I used to get either the square boiled sweets in either orange (of course in orange wrapping) or blackcurrant (in purple wrapping) or the ice lollies (in either flavour) [as ice lollies, they had no ice cream or anything].

original spangles were a properly made boiled sweet texture you could crunch into bits and were sweet. Later they were brought back with a plastic type of texture, you can't crunch up and were sharper in flavour. The originals were so popular. Beats me why they stopped making them. Please someone find the recipe & bring them back
