Sugar Mice

Sugar Mice were about 2 1/2 inches long, shaped like a mouse and made of solid sugar, with a little string tail, and the eyes and nose marked on in dots. They came in pink and white (possibly other colours?) They didn't taste of anything besides sugar, but they were fun, and once you'd eaten one, you could suck on the piece of string for hours. Actually, they're still made, if my Mum can find them, she usually sends me a couple for Christmas. And yes, the tail is still real string.

Oh, the sensation of a piece of string in your mouth! I know at least one sweetshop that still has sugar mice.

Yep, you can still get sugar mice, but they're definitely smaller than they used to be! You could get them in pink or white, and you could also get sugar pigs at my local sweetshop. My mum would buy me one occasionally. Never ever would I let one of my own kids have one! It's amazing I've got any teeth left at all!

They are still available, you can often find them in old-fashioned sweet shops especially around Christmas time. I've always been able toi find them ofr the kids stockings. I saw a packet of them last week in a seaside rock shop, instead of a string tail they had a stick, making them like a lolly, same shape though.

Wow, that takes me back. Don't think they exist anymore which is a shame because they're a great stocking filler. Might have to see if I can't see any of these nostalgic sweets on any of the websites I'm looking at so I can buy them all at once.
