A bit like Toy Story but without the animation, or Labyrinth but less surreal. The Indian In the Cupboard, released in 1995 is about a boy who receives a cupboard as a gift on his ninth birthday (imagine his delight, heh!). He later discovers that putting toy figures in the cupboard, after locking and unlocking it, brings the toys to life. The film was based on an 80s book by Lynne Reid Banks. Not quite as good as ET, but still the bond that develops between the young boy and one of his toy soldiers that comes to life, no doubt touched a few hearts back in the day... and maybe a little more recently.
