The Mallens was a TV series from the late 70's based on the book by Catherine Cookson. Squire of the manor in mid-19th century Northumberland is Thomas Mallen (John Hallam). When he becomes bankrupt he moves in with his two nieces in a derelict cottage. Thomas Mallen has a distinctive black hairstyle with a white streak in it.
