This was about a girl who went to stay with her Grandmother, and used her imagination to go to other times and places - she met the time gypsies who were stuck in her time but no one else could see them.

In this way she escapes her loneliness by retreating to "The Magical World of Another Time".

    Helen Cresswell was one of my favourite authors and her brilliant Bagthorpe Saga (also a TV series around the late seventies) is well worth looking up. She also wrote Lizzie Dripping and Moondial, and the screenplays for the TV series of The Demon Headmaster and The Phoenix and the Carpet. A lot of her books explore the theme of imagination used to escape from loneliness.
