The Sweet

Part of the stable of bands who recorded singles written by Mike Chapman & Nicky Chinn, The Sweet were leaders of the glam rock movement of the 70's. With a string of Chinn-Chapman hits like "The Ballroom Blitz" and "Teenage Rampage", the band stood on their own feet in the mid-70's with the self-penned and produced smash "Fox On The Run". Sadly, singer Brian Connolly and drummer Mick Tucker have both passed away in recent years.

The weren’t The Sweet - they were called Sweet. I loved them in the 1970s. I went shopping for my mum and spent the change buying the single ‘Little Willy’. She was horrified because she thought it must be rude! Like littlepmt, I saw Brian Connolly in later years when he had literally to be carried onto the stage. He belted out all the old classics just the same. They defined my teenage years more than any other act. Fabulous.

Poor Brian! Loved Steve Priest when I was a kid. I had my first erotic experience watching him flick his hair on TOTP. They actually had a pretty rocky side when Chin/Chapman were out of the picture

saw brian connolly live a couple of times in the years leading up to his death. he could barely talk and had to be carried onto the stage as he was unable to walk properly. but when the music started, he owned the audience from start to finish. never saw him do a bad gig.
