Tonka Trucks

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Tonka Trucks could be described in one word: indestructible! They were very realistic and could take anything you could do throw at them (literally!). I remember I had a Tonka Truck that I played with in our gravel driveway for many hours. It was made of real metal and despite rolling it down hills and ramming it into things it still held up.

I was too old to be playing with Tonka Toys, but I well remember the TV ad, when they removed a wheel from a car, lowered the axle onto a Tonka tipper, then drove the car away.

these things were indestructable! i rememeber me & my mates towing each other with bikes while one of us sat on the bucket of one of the tipper trucks! of course the paint would get chipped with all the battering they took but theyd still stay in one piece! have you seen the ones they produce now ? cheap lightweight plastic i bought my son some for christmas a couple of years ago right now? they probably be a few feet down in a landfill somewhere lol! pathetic! as the saying goes they dont make em like they used to!

I had a Tonka digger when I was about 6, it was my favourite toy at the time due to its size and weight. I remember slamming my finger in the movable scoop-arm a few times which wasn't nice. By the time I was 9 though I was using it as a stationary goalkeeper whilst playing football in my back room!

I remember my two older brothers had one each. They were really robust toys and they would play with them up and down the lane and in the mud. I remember them getting attacked by one of our evil cockerals. Great memories! :)

i cant really comment on these trucks, my niece plays with them and there bigger than the tonka toys i used to play with when i was 5yrs old. there was only 10 to collect and just as tough in there looks ,i played with mine in the sand pit, and they were fab. now my niece has the tipper truck, and she loves playing in the sand too, not to mention smashing them into other toys. i prefer them when tonka made the smaller version, as these trucks are blooming painful when one gets rammed into ur leg by a 4yr old.
