Transformers

The Transformers magazine was about ?2 back in about 1986-88ish. I always thought it was a bit dear, but I paid for it every 2 weeks anyway.

It was an ongoing story about the conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons who were both after fighting to reclaim Cybertron - their home planet.

Optimus Prime was the leader of the Autobots (the goodies), and Megatron was the leader of the Decepticons (the baddies). (Explanations for the benefit of girls - guffaw!)

My favourite transformers were Jazz (a racing car), Mirage (another racing car), Bumblebee (a VW Beetle) and Soundwave (a cassette player).

And I know this isn't technically the same thing at all, but I was SOOO chuffed when I completed my Transformers sticker album. I just had to mention it again.

Reading the Transformers comics as a kid are some of my fondest childhood memories. I never had many of the toys and didn't think that the animated series was all that great (apart from the movie), but I always loved the comics. The story lines I remember in particular are Target 2006, and pretty much all of the ones that included the character Deaths Head. It's funny how something that seems so trivial, to many people, can stay with you for the rest of your life!

My biggest memory of the Transformers comic was picking up an issue and finding out that Shockwave had defeated the Autobots and had cut Optimus Prime's head off! Classic stuff.
