Leigh Lawson stars in this 1984 / 85 detective thriller playing former Met. Detective Inspector Alan Lomax, who was has just been released from prison after serving a two-year sentence for accepting a bribe he did not take. His conviction has cost him everything- his job, his home and his marriage. But he has one asset left- a canal narrowboat, in which he sets off across England to uncover the clues that may lead him to how he came to be wrongfully convicted, and to the man who framed him. But this isn't an easy task for a disgraced and isolated former detective.... Also starring Terry Taplin and Lindsay Duncan, the series was created by Roger Marshall and ran for 13 episodes, spawning a series of spin-off novels. It all ends in tragedy, when Lomax's boat is torched and the one man who can clear his name dies on him, meaning that he'll NEVER prove his innocence. It also sparked off a short-lived interest in canal-boat living, and it was impossible for any narrowboat to pass through a population centre without some joker in a quayside pub shouting out "Hey, Travelling Man!" or "Have you found him yet, Lomax?!" Lawson is the former husband of Hayley Mills and went on to marry Twiggy in '88- the divide their time between London, Suffolk and Bermuda.
