Vertibird was a helicopter which would fly around in a circle. It was tethered to a plastic arm which moved around with the helicopter. You could fly the Vertibird up and down, forwards and backwards and hover.

There were little men and cars which you could pick up and put down with the hook beneath the Vertibird. I had great fun with the Vertibird, but it was quite fragile and had to be taken back to the shop a few times to be replaced. I recently bought an updated version of the Vertibird, but it was nowhere near as good as the original Vertibird!

    I remember this well it never lasted long i remember having fallen out with my cousin because i was so jealous of me having it that he kicked it up in the air one afternoon when i had it set up outside..... ohh but the memorys

    I still have my Vertibird which was also the Police helicopter set. Sadly it stopped 'flying' some time ago but in a fit of nostalgia bought it's modern replacement called Chopper Patrol. It's more or less the same thing with a few extra props and different packaging, but it now has a protective ring attached to the rotor blades to help prevent kids injuring themselves. Still a fun toy and it ranks as one of my most favorite xmas presents during the 70's when I was a kid. KJ

    i remember the vertibird well.i was about 7 or so, my dads mate next door to us when we lived in germany had one and he brought it round one night and everyone in the place was playing with it.they all tryed to make it hover but they couldnt do so, then i had a go at the age of 7 or so and did it.i was called all the names of day.i wish i could get one now i did have a star trek one time but it wasnt the same.im 34 now time has gone quikly and so has all the good stuff from them old days.

    Vertibird was great. Thanks for reminding me of the name... I'd forgot, but could always remember having played with one as a kid. My Vertibird was the police helicopter, with a couple of small police signs and car that you could pick up with a hook hanging from underneath the copter. Or you could just keep going round and round as fast as possible until you you got board and decided to smash into the police car, or what ever else you fancied putting in it's path.

    There were a whole range of different Vertibirds and Veritbird accessories including a Vertibird Police Helicopter, Vertibird Rescue Ship and Vertbird Polar Adventure set.
