White and burgundy socks

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Does anyone remember the battle of the socks? If you were a lad at school in the early 80s then there seemed to be only two colours to wear, white or burgundy. I'm not sure what it was all about. Can anyone enlighten me?

The trend for the boys was white terry towelling socks - not that they stayed white for very long !

Don't know why they were so popular, but I do remember white socks very clearly. At my high school, any kid who DIDN'T wear them was considered an outcast.

being a girl i remember burgundy socks and white ankle socks but we put them over tights....big fashion in my juniors in the early eighties
