Xanadu was about a guy who makes a painting on a wall come to life and the painting is made of these girls. The guy falls in love with one of them until she has to go back to being a painting and he tries to follow her into the painting to bring her back... but she isn't allowed out of the painting.

    The movie that killed Olivia Newton John's career. Olivia plays one of the Greek Muses, who helps a struggling musician achieve his dreams. Predictably, she falls in love with him and there follows much angst regarding the future of their relationship -- her being essentially immortal whereas he's not. Abysmal acting, hideous clothes, gut-wrenchingly bad dialogue, but some great music courtesy of Olivia and ELO. File under "guilty pleasure".

      The singles and soundtrack were huge hits, and she went on to record Physical, the top-selling single of the 80s, and a multi-platinum album. Two more million-sellers, and three top 5 and one top 20 hit came between Xanadu in 1980 and Soul Kiss In 1985. So it hardly ‘killed’ her career...
