I remember Dave Hallam the canvassing team leader back in 1986. Drove a purple MGB. There was also a legendary salesman Malc who could sell snow to eskimos, never failed to make a sale. He started off the sales patter in Urdu in some areas of Nottingham and Derby. - Alpine Soft Drinks
Exactly the same as in my time in the Beeston, Nottingham depot, summer of 1986! The van lads were always skiving off to snog and often bonk local girls, so reversing the TKs was a one man job, with disastrous results. The warehouse had a leader board of accidents - there were one or two every week without fail! One week Dave H. the supervisor managed to knock down two front garden walls in the same street on two days. He got flummoxed by the change from Bedford to Renault vans and, in his own words on the crash form, "put it into reverse, but thought it was in first". The vans had different gear patterns and once he'd got used to the Renault, when he went out with one of the old Bedfords, he screwed up again!
