  • Huckleberry's Burger Bar
It was Bob Shearer and Jonny Chong who ran training above the Lewisham branch, if I stand correct, the Chinese manager could be Vernon Chai, he lived just behind my road in Deptford at the time, its been so long but I don't recall seeing another Asian manager in the Lewisham branch, I have faint memory of another guy in training by name of Brian, I kinda remembered having a pint with him and Jonny at the pub next to the railway bridge. Joe was the manager at TCR branch in 1983, his assistant manager then was James Tambyapin, later promoted to Manager when Dartford branch opened, I remembered how painful this opening was because it is one of the first branch to use the new company logo and color scheme, the old orange/white uniform now replaced with navy blue/white as well as signage all now blue/white, the big bosses like John Servant and John Gillespie all showed up and created such pressure for the staffs that no one seem happy because it was so busy on opening day, I remembered John Servant asking me while I was organising stock how people feel, at the time I was a young manager and I never hold back so I gave it to him straight, told him most staffs haven't had a break since store opened 5 or 6 hrs ago, he went off and within a few minutes, Mike Newton and other senior guys start to give orders to allow breaks for staffs, I am still not sure if they knew what snitched on them till now. I also helped open Southend, as most the staffs were trained in Dartford seeing it is the nearest branch to them, again, I remembered this being another hectic opening. Paul Chawla later moved to Wendy's, I meet him at the Oxford Street branch in 1985 I think. One final point, I was a wizard with the Positran tills !!
