In the early seventies my mum took us to get new shoes for school and my 2 older brothers got Doc Martens. I wanted the same but they didn't come in my size so I got a pair of Major Domos instead. They were known somewhat disparagingly as "Mothercare Martens" I loved them though. They were ox blood red and we used to spend ages polishing them. - Oxford Bags
Tragically my first senior school uniform trousers were basically black oxford bags. This was in 1977 when they were already well out of fashion. Thanks mum! My brother was a punk at the time so I got him to take them in so they ended up as drainpipes. I must have had enough material left over to make another 2 pairs!
