Cloppa Castle

Cloppa Castle came to our TV screens in 1977. Two series of Cloppa Castle were made, consisting of a total of 52 episodes, each lasting 11 minutes. The characters were all puppets set in the Dark Ages. Cloppa Castle followed the adventures of two groups of people - The Bygones and The Hasbeenes. The Bygones lived in Cloppa Castle and the Kingdom was ruled by King Woebegone and Queen Ethelbrudaa. The real power was held by Queen Ethelbrudaa, however, who ruled with a rod of iron and the King just did as he was told. The Hasbeenes were a group of rogues led by Beosweyne. Both groups battled each other for the oil that was found under the castle by Cue-ee-Dee (the inventor). Cue-ee-Dee discovered oil under the castle and invented all sorts of ways of using it. The army of Hasbeenes camped outside the castle were a party of rogues, headed by Beosweyne, whose main aim was to get their hands on the oil. King Woebegone and Queen Ethelbrudaa's children were appropriately named Prince Idelbone and Princess Tizzibel. Other inhabitants of Cloppa Castle were Muldin the befuddled magician, court jester Jest-a-Minit, Cue-ee-Dee the inventor, and Albrite the servantboy.

I can't find anyone else who remembers this show, probably because I watched as an adult, while on shift work. I had forgotton the names of the King, Prince and Princess, but Beosweyne was the "Black Knight". I remember most of the theme song - If you go down to Cloppa Castle, be prepared to stay a while, The Bygones and the Hasbeenes have been doing battle for the oil, (I don't remember the 3rd line), and every day at three o'clock they all sit down to tea, living in harmony (at cloppa castle), with the friendly enemy (at cloppa castle). It should be shown again.
