Tinker and Taylor

This Memory is looking a little short on nostalgia! Have you got anything you could add?

Tinker and Taylor was a Saturday morning programme for children. It was shown by ATV, and it was introduced by Alan Taylor and his glove puppet called Tinker. It had all sorts of things going on, especially cartoons, and proved to be a great favourite with children in the 1960s.

It was made by TWW originally from April 1964 and continued until 1970 by which time it was made by Harlech TV. It was not made by or shown by ATV - they had their own show called Tingha and Tucker. Sketches with Alan, Tinker and Topper were interspersed with puppets and cartoons like Torchy the Battery Bot and Felix the Cat.

I remember this well as a child, similar format to the Banana Splits that came later in regard to the cartoons being showed in between, the difference was that Tinker was a glove puppet. It was the last thing on in the morning for children before a whole afternoon of sport I remember so we made sure to watch it! It was Alan Taylor's personality that made it watchable as it was with the Mr and Mrs quiz show.
