Jumanji was released on December 15th 1995 and ended up being the 10th highest-grossing film of 1995. It stars the likes of Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Jonathan Hyde and David Alan Grier. This American adventure-fantasy film is loosely based on the picture book by Chris Van Allsburg, also called Jumanji. The film is the first in the Jumanji franchise. The story starts with Alan Parrish as a boy in 1969 becoming trapped inside the supernatural board game whilst playing it with his friend, Sarah Whittle. Skip forward twenty six years and siblings Judy and Peter Shepherd have found the game and begin to play it, unwittingly releasing the now adult, Alan. The trio manage to track down Sarah and then the four of them go on to play the jungle-based game in order to reverse all of the destruction it has caused.
