The Beautiful South

Fronted by ex-Housemartins vocalist Paul Heaton, The Beautiful South enjoyed an impressive run of eighteen top 40 chart singles between 1989 and 1999, including 'Song For Whoever' (their first hit), 'Perfect 10', 'Rotterdam', 'You Keep It All In' and 'A Little Time', which was their only No.1.

Though Heaton provided the majority of lead vocal performances, female lead vocals were often featured on their songs - by Briana Corrigan, who was later replaced by Jacqui Abbot.

The band has a notable record of album sales, including two chart-toppers: 'Blue Is The Colour' (featuring an X-rated version of their hit 'Don't Marry Her'), and 'Quench'.

WELL ROXXY IF YOUR GOING TO COMMENT ON SOMETHING AT LEAST GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT. PERFECT 10 WAS NOT ABOUT A WOMANS BUST SIZE. TRY ACTUALLY LISTENING TO THE WORDS AND THEN FEEL FREE TO COMMENT.

They irritated me to Hell- all those stupid opinionated vaguely Left Wing bands from the '80s, The Housemartins, The Beautiful South, Fairground Attraction, Everything But The Girl....hated them, they were all so arrogant and full of their own hypocritical ideologies. I remember Paul Heaton on Radio 1 back in '87 bleating protest about the heavy rocker Zodiac Mindwarp, saying that his songs were sexist and his music should be banned. Then a few years later he brings out 'Perfect 10', which is a song about a woman's bust size...how sexist is THAT?! Typical Red Wedge double-standards, do as we say not as we do. Thank God they're all in the past now.

One of my all-time favourite bands. They finally called it a day in 2007, after releasing their 10th studio album 'Superbi'.
